I'm a huge fan of Kristens. But when I bought the book I was expecting what she normally writes. I would not buy this book til it was .99 cents or free.It was boring, lacked adventure. The man was a kiss ass man to me. And there was really no story line about the herione. More of a write itn at the end just skip to when they are old and have kids. Nothing really exciting at all. Very disapointed in this book.Tags : Midnight Soul (Fantasyland Series Book 5) - Kindle edition by Kristen Ashley. Midnight Soul Fantasyland Series Book 5 edition by Kristen Ashley Romance eBooks Reviews
I'm a big fan. But this one, the real conflict was gone in the beginning and it was more the herione having an inner conflict with herself the whole book and playing matchmaker. Since she was playing matchmaker I really wanted it to switch points of views with that. There was no sexual tension or build up to her romantic relationship like in KA true style. All of a sudden she just accepted their relationship and love. There was no fight for the romance. There were a couple times they had normal relation problems but the chase was not a chase at all. And that's what I prefer reading.
The adventure to the fantastical world I love so much was done at the beginning. Good vs. Evil was done too soon as well. Just her arguing if she was a good soul or a bad one.
Don't hate me. I really love KA. Every single one of her books except this one. I stayed up until 4 to finish this but this book wasn't like the first 3.
The Fantasyland series has been one of my all-time favorites, but Midnight Soul is definitely my least favorite of the series. I still liked it, it was okay, it took me forever to read, but I wanted to end the series on a high note. This sort of just felt like a really long fizzle.
I have to give credit where credit is due – I never thought Ashley could turn Franka into a character I could sympathize with, much less like. But she did it, so hats off for that. But beyond that, I don’t have a whole lot to say about this book. The story felt rather underwhelming, the slow burn felt way too friggin’ molasses slow, and then once Franka and Noc did get together, it felt kinda lame. I kept waiting for the climax of the story and then I hit the Epilogue and I was very confused. I felt like there was hardly any story arc at all.
I have loved “exploring” the parallel universe in this series, so I think watching Franka experience our normal world was far more boring by comparison. It was definitely humorous at times, but that’s pretty much it. Also, there didn’t seem much special about Noc. Every main male character in this series has this larger than life presence, these defining traits about them that you can’t help but fall in love with. Noc was just kind of… there. He felt like a love interest was plucked out of her Rock Chick series and accidentally dropped into this wonderful, fantasy series by mistake. It was just… underwhelming.
Actually, to steal a quote from 10 Things I Hate About You “I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?” That’s more like how I feel about Midnight Soul. Whelmed. It wasn’t great, it wasn’t bad, it just was.
Let me start out by saying that I am a Kristen Ashley addict. I have read all of her books (over and over again), and I was really looking forward to this one being released. However, after reading it....I doubt I will be reading this one over and over again. The twist of matching up the this world Circe and Dax....THAT I got excited about. I truly think (sorry, Kristin, backseat writing here), that the whole book should have been about the this world Circe and Dax and all that would have been involved in that match. LOTS of conflict there! Now, this could also be my bias because Golden Dynasty is way up there as a favorite book of mine.
I will say that getting me to like Franka after all the thing said and done in the other books was quite the task, and Kristen pulled that one off for me fairly quickly. I just didn't FEEL the love for Noc and Franka together. Maybe it was because it happened so quickly. Or there was very little conflict like in most of her other stories.
No worries, Kristen, you're still my favorite! One "meh" book for me won't cause me to break up with you D
