A Bride By Christmas An Anthology Heather Graham Jo Beverley Candace Camp 9780373773435 Books Reviews
Jo Beverly's medieval story was very good especially since I usually am not intrigued by this time period. The other two stories were okay but without the emotional resonance of The Wise Virgin. I have enjoyed Candace Camp's Regency books but this American West tale wasn't as good. Maybe just a setting that isn't interesting to me.
This was a good Christmas historical romance anthology. I enjoyed the characters and how each story took me back to a different period of time. I found myself feeling for each other characters as they battled their feelings for the other. You usually know that most end in triumph but you you never know what struggle you'll go through til you read their stories. Good Christmas read for those who love a good historical romance. Passionate yet not so erotic that it will have you hiding the book from other eyes. -)
Home for Christmas (Heather Graham)
Soon after the Civil War began, (Union officer) Captain Travis Alywin, commandeered the Hinton home as their headquarters. This house was chosen because of it's handy location. At first, things were tense between Isabella (the only resident remaining), the servants and the Union soldiers who took up residence there. Before long, Travis realized he was in love with Isabella. But each Christmas season, she applied for, and received, a pass to visit her relatives nearby.
In the Christmas season of 1864, Isabella happened upon an elderly Confederate soldier, who was being taken by Union soldiers to his home. He had been walking in the snow barefooted and was near death. The old man helped Isabella see the war and suffering in a new way.
The Wise Virgin (Jo Beverley)
I found this story to be rather charming, possibly because I don't usually read medieval stories. This is a complex plot about a generations-old feud. The de Grave's and the Woldingham's have been fighting over the rightful ownership of a banner (left over from the Crusades).
One thing that caught my attention was the harsh way mistakes were dealt with in medieval times.
Tumbleweed Christmas (Candace Camp)
Cook employees find Rancher Daniel MacKenzie is nearly impossible to work for; he has a difficult time keeping inside help. Destitute, Melinda Ballard asks for a job; he doesn't want to hire a female but his workers are desperate for good food. Daniel also doesn't like children and you-can-just- forget-Christmas. Melinda has a young son and she IS going to celebrate Christmas. Battle lines are drawn and may the most-determined fighter win!
This collection of stories centered around the Christmas season are sweet and simplistic shorts by 3 great authors..They present an easy bedtime read.
I received it in a very short time. I ordered for a Christmas present so I cant tell you about it. I am well pleased with the one whom I purchased it from. Would buy from them again.
