This is a very good sampling of horror fiction Mr. Lovecraft himself enjoyed, each prefaced by a brief explanatiuon of his reasons for enjoying the work or author. The novella in the middle slows down the reading in my opinion, but it is a good introduction to some virtually forgotten authors worthy of deeper investigation by the lover of weird fiction.

I like the idea of a book of horror stories chosen by an author that I respect. The readers were very good. The only real drawback is the fact that there is no table of contents and no information on the discs to tell you what's on them. The quality of the discs and box is excellent. There was an anthology of this type that came before this one, that I wish they had also done on CD also.
As a big fan of Gothic and Horror literature I love H.P. Lovecraft. WARNING THE INTRO/ESSAY IS THE ONLY THING WRITTEN BY H.P. LOVECRAFT THE REST ARE SHORT STORIES BY OTHER AUTHORS! I did LOVE this book. It had so many great stories by some of my favorite authors. I fully recommend purchasing this book!!!

An anthology of other authors besides Lovecraft.
Aside from the essay on horror from one of the people who inspired a lot of contemporary horror, this book is a treasure trove of horror classics. Fans of the genre definitely will find something to enjoy.
This was a great book of different stories from some of the classic masters of horror which paved the way for most of the horror we have today. Four star read for keeping me entertained.
